From this day forward I will be jotting down my thoughts and emotions on ‘American Idol.’ I’m not going to lie. I completely forgot about it. Because I’m adjusting to a new schedule, it slipped my mind to DVR the thing. But starting next week I’ll be doing a few episode recaps on the show. So feel free to drop me a line. What do you think of the show so far? How’s the new judge doing? And what’s up with the girl in the bikini?

What can we expect from American Idol in 2008?December 13th, 2007, 2:53 pm by Crystal OlveraNigel Lythgoe, executive producer of American Idol spoke to MTV American Idol: Video battleDecember 11th, 2007, 3:30 pm by Crystal OlveraA couple of weeks ago I weighed in on Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis’ album art. Lewis won that battle with his best Justin Timberlake impression. This week we’ve finally got a video from the runner-up to pit against winner Sparks. Unfortunately, this battle clearly belongs to the bubbly teen queen. Why? Watch below. “Break Anotha’”
This is absolutely horrible! The song has so much potential, yet it looks like American Idol: Battle of the album artNovember 12th, 2007, 1:45 pm by Crystal OlveraYes, Jordin Sparks took home the gold in this year’s American Idol battle, but it’s time to weigh in on her and runner-up Blake Lewis’s success after the show. We all know that you aren’t a winner if you can’t sell an album. So far, both singers have released their album cover art. Let’s take a look and see who has won the first round eh? First up, we’ve got winner Sparks with her long black locks in a leather jacket and a green scarf. And it appears to be raining(?) directly behind her, but not on her, of course. Despite her makeup being flawless, it looks a bit like it took the photoshop dude about five minutes to put this thing together. He also seemed to forget that she’s not white. And her blank stare seems to say ‘This photoshoot is a bore and I couldn’t care less.” Yes Jordin, this album cover is a bore. What happened? Why so goth? And in this corner, Blake Lewis pulls off his ‘I’m cute, funny and want to be Justin Timberlake’ look. And he does it well. Because even if his facial expression is slightly retarded, he’s got the color, audio imagery and spacey galaxy thing down. If I saw this at the record store (Target), I think I’d actually be interested to see what it sounds like. Lewis wins this battle, despite the bad highlights.

-Rihanna soars to the top of the Hot 100 on Billboard with “Umbrella” and y’know what? The song ain’t bad, and that’s coming from someone who thought this girl was as exciting as celery. -Kanye West’s “Graduation” is coming sooner than you think! -Lil Mamma and Avril Lavigne team up for a remix of “Girlfriend.” Listen to it here and while you’re there listen to “Lipgloss” cause I can’t stop pressing play. -Jordin Sparks says Sanjaya Malakar is an “amazing kid.” Thanks Jordin, now I can add to my “Why Blake Lewis should have won American Idol” list. -Prince doesn’t want to tour with Michael Jackson and adds to my “Why Prince rules” list. -Michael Jackson ads to my “Why Michael Jackson is evil” list by buying a stake in Eminem’s, Bjork’s and Beck’s music catalogue. _______ Photo courtesy of rollingstone.com I’m votin’ for Blake ya’ll.May 22nd, 2007, 8:38 pm by Crystal OlveraHundreds of thousands down, one to go. After months of tedious fluff, shocking revelations, and hours of oversinging, American Idol’s grand finale is here. Finalists Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks will take the stage Tuesday and Wednesday in order to try and become the next Taylor Hicks. OK, more like the next Kelly Clarkson. And judging from these two contestants’ style, singing, and personalities, both stand the chance to make it to Clarkson’s level, which is the reason why the glorious Melinda Doolittle was sent packing. I shed a tear along with the rest of America, and wondered why the 29-year-old Tina Turner-like superstar with a heart of gold that could sing circles around the other two said goodbye that night. But the reason was very clear. Teens, tweens, and Sanjaya lovers wanted to watch more of a 17-year-old curly-haired America Ferrera-look alike and a 25-year-old Justin Timberlake wannabe. It’s no secret that moms, dads and vocal coaches aren’t the ones clicking away at their computer screens. American Idol isn’t about talent folks, it’s about popularity, so let’s weigh in on who’s taking home the gold, or microphone, or whatever it is that symbolizes a recording contract. Blake Lewis - The goods: The young beatboxer has beatboxed his way into the hearts of millions even if many predicted his departure last week. Teenage girls think he’s cute. He’s got the Timberlake fashion sense and can rock argyle sweaters and different hair colors without looking like an idiot. Lewis has also made several good song choices and accomplished the unthinkable by beatboxing to Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” and making it sound good. The bads: After updating Bon Jovi’s hit, he followed his performance by updating every song he’s sung with his beatboxing, including the Bee Gees “You Should Be Dancing.” Lewis needs to put an end to the beatboxing, and stick to the contemporary stuff. Jordin Sparks - The goods: The bouncy teen is the best friend all girls wish they had. She’s funny, down-to-earth, not all skin and bones and looks like the kind of girl that would never laugh if you ever spill punch on your favorite shirt. Sparks definitely has the talent and was the only contestant that could sometimes measure up to Doolittle’s vocals. The bads: She’s not a heartthrob like Lewis and has been known to make terrible choices like Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Who will take the top spot? Tune in to the 2-day finale on Fox on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 8 p.m. My vote is for Blake. |
