Kanye West Glow in the Dark Tour

May 6th, 2008, 1:40 pm by Crystal Olvera

By now, if you frequent the blogosphere, you’ve probably heard about Kanye West’s tirade against Entertainment Weekly’s Chris Willman and his review of West’s Glow in the Dark tour. He gave West a B+. Now, for those of you who know of the Grammy-winning rapper, you know that he odesn’t settle for a merely a passing grade. Mr. West needs to be at the top of his class.glowin-the-dark.jpg

The rapper is notorious for his ego, but that’s what is so likeable about the guy. I truly believe it’s all part of a gimmick he uses to create controversy and that deep, down inside is an inner dork who loves playing Connect Four (which we’ve already had proof of.) He spends most of his time posting pictures of sofas and architecture on his blog. The guy is harmless. He’s just a dork disguised as a jerk.

Anyway, West went on to tell EW they weren’t invited to anymore of his shows (LOL!) Days later, at his Houston gig at the Woodlands Pavillion in Houston, Kanye received more criticism after cursing onstage when confronted with technical difficulties. He, again used his trusty blog to address the matter as well as his EW comments.

Now, all is well in the world of Kanye, hopefully.

I’m happy to say that the Dallas show at show at the Superpages.com Center went off without any problems and a drunken good time was had by all.

Even though the opening acts may look more lively with the conventional band set up, back-up singers and entourage, Kanye still managed to dazzle the crowd all on his own, along with his talking spaceship. Like a hip-hopera, with transitions and dialogue, Kanye told his story to an energetic Dallas crowd. And yeah, some of it was a bit cheesy and melodramatic, but the superstar rapper made up for it with a catalogue of party anthems. From “Good Life” to “Flashing Lights” to the sentimental, tear-jerking “Hey Mamma,” Kanye delivered with a vivid kaleidoscope of lights and a passionate performance. (I’m serious. I hadn’t had this much fun since M.I.A. at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. We were on our feet puttin’ our hands up in the ayah the entire time like a bunch of groupies.)

Rihanna gave us the best of hit album “Good Girl Gone Bad” as well as early hits “Pon de Replay” and “Unfaithful” –
a song I usually despise but became a favorite after watching two grown men sway and sing along at the top of their lungs (which might be THE highlight of the entire show. Sorry Kanye.) But Rihanna fell a little short on “Umbrella.” The song just might be one of the greatest pop songs of the decade, but the performance was a bit lackluster.

kanye2.jpgN.E.R.D. pretty much got the party started with a bang and hits “Lapdance” and “Rockstar” got us bumpin’ and grindin’ like an R. Kelly video. But the highlight was new single “Everyone Nose” which I’ve prematurely dubbed as the Party Anthem of the Year. Seriously folks, just give it a listen. This song needs to kick Soulja Boy and Flo-rida in the a** pronto!
Unfortunately, we missed out on Lupe Fiasco due to our terrible sense of direction. We didn’t know where the parking lot was ok? Don’t hate!

So is there truth to the EW review? Certainly. Yes, the concert may not have reached it’s full potential, and maybe Kanye could’ve gotten Lupe and Pharrell up on stage for a rendition of “Us Placers” and sure Rihanna could’ve give us a little more “oomph,” but in the end, we did what Kanye wanted us to do, which was “Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party b***h!!”

Kanye just posted a few screencaps from his new video with Coldplay’s Chris Martin for “Homecoming” on his blog. The song is one of my favorites from “Graduation.”

Looks like Kanye went back to Chi-town for a real life homecoming of his own. I don’t know if I dig the black and whiteness of it all, but I’m glad Chris made an appearance. He’s a big part of the song. I hope we get to see a live performance from both to promote the single.

New Video: “American Boy” by Estelle ft. Kanye West

February 27th, 2008, 4:36 pm by Crystal Olvera

Lord knows I’ve never been one to hide my love for Kanye West. (He will actually grace me with his presence May 1 in Dallas!) So, I was ecstatic when I saw Britain’s Estelle feature him on her new single “American Boy,” a

New Video: “Flashing Lights” Kanye West

February 13th, 2008, 3:34 pm by Crystal Olvera

What do you get when you put Kanye West, Spike Jonze and one of the best songs on “Graduation” together? You’d think it would be one of the most influential music video masterpieces ever created. But, sadly, it’s not. “Flashing Lights” had so much potential. SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!! But a vengeful ex-girlfriend, Spike?! That’s all you got?! Booo to that! You’re better off watching this version.

Kanye West is just like you and me

I make it a point to visit Kanye West’s blog every now and then because he posts some nerdy, yet interesting crap like

kanyebeyonce.jpg

pictures of toilets made out of gold and crazy futuristic architecture as well as ‘dope ass beats’ (his words, not mine.) But since the death of his mother Donda West, he understandably stopped posting — that is, until today. And what has kept Mr. West’s spirits high after his very tragic loss? Playing Connect 4 with Beyonce, of course.

When I was in Europe I would play this game for hours and hours… it helped me zone out. Everybody would get envolved… Derrick Dudley (Common’s manager) and Consequence were the best other than me… I beat Lexi… Don C beat Jay… Tony Williams beat Common… but every now and then people would speak of this legendary connect 4 champion……….. BEYONCE!!! I had 2 play her!…so last night at Jay’s new 40/40 club in Las Vegas (which is sidebar, crazy big w/ 24krt gold flooring, Black Jack tables, $500 slot machines, the biggest projection screen in the universe and the best turkey burgers I’ve ever had in my life) she beat me 9 times in a row! (and I didn’t even spaz lol) here’s a photo of the only game I won!

Who knew Ms. Irreplaceable was a master of Connect 4? To check out more pics of
