New Videos: Estelle and Solange Knowles

June 6th, 2008, 2:29 pm by Crystal Olvera

estelle.jpgEstelle reminds me of Lauryn Hill. She’s got that great mix of hip-hop and r&b all rolled into one shiny package. Her single “American Boy” with Kanye West put her album “Shine” on the map. Hopefully, “No Substitute Lover” will be a new destination for r&b listeners looking for something fresh. Check out the new video. Project Runway’s Christian Siriano and Kelly Rowland make cameos.

Solange Knowles, also known as Beyonce’s little sis, has released the first single off her sophomore album. The song is called “I Decided.” It’s a ditty that sounds like it could comfortably fit on the “Dreamgirls” soundtrack. With the do-wop style and Supremes vibe, the song is a gem. And the video is a trippy history lesson.

Both videos after the jump.

Usher wants credit

May 1st, 2007, 7:22 pm by Crystal Olvera

If you didn’t hate Usher already, read the first part of his MTV interview where he claims to be responsible for the success of Omarion, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo.  OK, so he doesn’t actually name them but it’s obvious who he’s talking about.

You can’t come around here and think that you’re really starting the game. Understand, when I came up in the game and I found a trail, I was cool.  Bobby Brown went this way, Michael Jackson went this way, Marvin Gaye, he created his little profile and he held to it. I didn’t step on those toes. What I did was find a way and my thing and created my thing. Now you have my thing being built. So I look up, and I’m like, ‘OK, I see you all. I see you all in the videos. I see you moving, I get it,’ but pay the respect, man.

Yes Usher, just like Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson, you’ve become a legend in your own skin. Bow down Chris Brown! And be sure to thank Usher at the end of each day for your success, but preferably in your next single.

R.Kelly wants you to give him a call

March 14th, 2007, 2:26 pm by Crystal Olvera

rkelly-cropped.jpgNo, seriously. Call him. His number is 312-278-3695.

All right, so maybe he won’t answer but a recording of him promoting his new record along with snippets of his new album will play. Thas right.  His new album “Double Up” is ready to drop May 29 and he’s keepin’ it real by giving you his number. No more livin’ in the past when you had to wait for the album release date to purchase the new album at your local Musicland. R. Kelly is doin’ it the high-tech way! He’s bringing his music via the latest in technology–an answering machine.

Yes, I tried it and it really works.
